The culture around darts is rich and vivid.
There are many traditions, superstitions, and jokes revolving around the game of darts that have always made me wonder how they came up with it.
One particular aspect of this culture I've found to be particularly amusing has been all the colorful terms used during playtime, such as "mugs away," "Robinhood," or "diddle for the middle," etc.
One term that caught my attention is the term "Hat Trick".
It is shared with a variety of sports.
In Football, for example, it refers to scoring three goals in one game.
A Hat-Trick can also happen when someone scores 3 consecutive home runs during an MLB Baseball game or if they get their third strikeout in the same inning at bat while playing fast pitch softball.
So what does "Hat Trick" in darts mean?
A hat trick in darts is when a player scores three consecutive bullseye shots in a round using their 3 darts.
It is also called the "Alan Evans Shot".
Is a darts hart trick only on red ? can It hit both red and green Bull?
A hat trick in darts is three consecutive shots that all land on the bullseye.
Some people are more lenient with their definition of a hat-trick and will say it's any score consisting of 3 bullseyes, regardless if they're hitting the outer ring or not.
Who is Alan Evans? Why is it Called The "Alan Evans" Shot ?
David "Alan" Evans (14 June 1949 – 11 April 1999) was a Welsh professional darts player and former World No. 1 who competed in the 1970s and 1980s.
Evans was one of the early faces of television darts and had some tournament success in the 1970s.
By the time that darts had gained big popularity in the early 1980s, Evans's form had faded and he wasn't in the limelight as much as other pros.
He was constantly mentioned in televised events by commentator Sid Waddell and usually referred to the "Alan Evans Shot" (three bullseyes) when a player required a checkout of 150.
